Byrdi Norway
With "Byrjing" ("Beginning"), BYRDI grow to an established force within the Nordic folk genre. The Norwegians recorded their third album with guests including percussionist Kjell Braaten (WARDRUNA live) and Mathias Gyllengahm (UTMARKEN) on keyed fiddle. Finally, a fresh take on the whole Nordic Neo-Folk movement. After this genre's mainstrem succes, heaps of bands surfaced, each less original than the other. This is certainly not the case when we talk about Byrdi!! This project has a unique and original sound. Their dwelling into a more recent folklore, both in musical and lyrical themes makes this album a one of a kind experience, and exposes the listeners to other faces of Norwegian folklore!

It is different than previous releases, nonetheless it is astonishing and beautiful homage to nature. One reproach, like both previous albums this one too flown by so quickly. Do yourself a favor and listen to this music in forest you like to visit.

This might be my favourite of Heilung. They've improved a bit on their later releases but their debut is still much meaner, and darker. Maria's amazing voice obviously steals the show but I also quite like Kai's too, especially on the live performance. In fact I'd say get LIFA over this IMO. The spoken word bits are really cool to hear proto-germanic in use but for relistening purposes they are going to be a bit obtrusive. Nevertheless the proper music here is on continual repeat for me.
